Mobile hotspot via Wi-Fi

Set up mobile hotspot

To set up or configure a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

  1. Scroll to and select the Status bar at the top of the Home screen to view Manage Connections.
  2. If necessary, scroll to and select the Mobile Network and Wi-Fi check boxes.
  3. Scroll to and select the Mobile Hotspot check box.
    • If this is your first time setting up Mobile Hotspot, you will be prompted to create a password.
  4. View the warning about data and battery use and select OK.
    Note: You can check Don't show me this again to prevent this message from appearing in the future.
  5. Scroll down and select Networks and Connections.
  6. Select Mobile Hotspot Connections.
  7. If desired, select the Don’t allow any more devices to connect check box.
    Note: This option will automatically disable when you turn off the Hotspot.
  8. Select Options.
  9. If desired, change the Network Name (SSID).
  10. If desired, select the Security Type drop-down box and select one of the following options:
    • None
    • WEP
    • WPA2 Personal
    • WPA/WPA2 Personal
  11. If desired, change the Passphrase or WEP Key.
  12. If desired, choose the desired Band:
    • 802.11g
    • 802.11bg
  13. If desired, select the Allow connected devices to exchange data with each other check box.
  14. If desired, select the Auto Shutoff Timer drop-down box and select the timer interval you want.

To turn on or turn off a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Status bar at the top of the Home screen to view Manage Connections.
  2. If necessary, scroll to and select the Mobile Network and Wi-Fi check boxes.
  3. Scroll to and select the Mobile Hotspot check box.
  4. If prompted, enter a passphrase to use when connecting another device to your phone’s Mobile HotSpot, and then slelect OK.
  5. View the warning about data and battery use and select OK.
  6. Your phone starts broadcasting its Wi-Fi network name (SSID) so you can connect to it with up to five computers or other devices.

Set up your Mobile Internet settings

Before you can use your BlackBerry smartphone as a modem, you must set up your Mobile Internet settings.
