10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5
momentum scrolling but is not shown in the settings menu

Yes, I did uncheck/check the scrollbox. It won't be shown. BUT, the scrolling feature seems to work. Hmmm… strange. Has it maybe to do with, that I'm using german as system language and not english?

This also works on my G5 with 10.5.8 even though the momentum option does not appear in the preferences.
Thanks.

OK.. For us - dumbasssssses - what is momentum scrolling ????? :-(

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

do you use an iphone? momentum scrolling is when you flick your finger up or down the screen and the screen keeps scrolling even though you're not touching it anymore. useful for long lists like contacts or long web pages.

Works on 10.5.8 for me. Even works inside a Fusion XP session..
The path to the 'scroll option' is System Preferences/Mouse/One Finger/Scroll (Second checkbox of three)

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

will this enable momentum scrolling on the trackpad on my macbook pro?

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

I would absolutely love this. I have often wondered why it isn't available, as it is obviously just a matter of software. I tried tinkering around with it to see if I could figure it out, but I can't get it to work. The .kext which would seem to be the most relevant is /System/Library/Extensions/AppleMultitouchDriver.kext, which even has a few momentum-scrolling references in the binary…

I just got it to work on my ancient PowerBook G4, much to my surprise. The scroll is pretty jerky though of course.

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

Wow - worked for me! 10.5.8 on a MacbookPro. Thanks!

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

Totally awesome! Thanks for this great hint.
It makes scrolling on my Leopard running PowerMac G5 fun!
Why Apple excluded this function for Leopard users and the Magic Mouse is beyond me.

The so called Blue tooth, Magic Mouse & Wireless Key Board has given me nothing but trouble !
I'm running tiger10.4 and and did not upgrade because of all the trouble with my I -Mac ,
This thing really stinks,I bought new ,right before Leopard came out,so That was mine stupid mistake,I did no know at that time about the new operating system coming out in the next 2 weeks .The salesman must have known this and I did ask him if anything new was coming out ! I'm new to Mac and I have trouble with basic things. Crashes,Safari stinks,I can not even open the easy attachments,I mean this thing is a lemon.I have a 3 year warranty, but I get the same results from tech ,and after 2 years I;m so disgusted that I spent $2000 on this Crap! I hardly use it, I use My Girl friends HP lap top and have no problems everything seems to work. Is there a book pamphlet that can help me out ? Apple won;t takes this thing back so I'm stuck with it. Anybody out that could help please feel free

Wireless Mouse Software Update Mac Os X 10.5.8

what you need, my friend is (a) an upgrade to leopard, and (b) someone to sit down with you and get you used to the mac way of doing things. and iMac that late ought to handle leopard (even if it's a G4) and you shouldn't be experiencing these kinds of problems. Im a bit surprised you are, really - macs generally work well right out of the box, even for novices. do you ahve any mac-savvy friends who can walk you through it?

any hint on doing momentum scrolling with two fingers on a mbpro multitouch trackpad with 10.6? it would be great :)

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

Check out Smart Scroll, at www.marcmoini.com
It enables momentum scrolling, and much more, for non-Magic mice, trackballs, and trackpads.

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

Another 'works for me in 10.5.8' post.
But I might be turning it back off. While I like momentum scrolling in Safari, I don't think I like it very much in iPhoto (version 6.0.6). And my initial impression is that scrolling is sensitive and accidental scrolling occurs more often than I like. On the other hand, I'm still getting use to the mouse.

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

Worked beautifully for Dual G5, forever stuck in Leopard. The scrolling is sensitive, but if you ever wanted to flick 2000 rows in a couple of seconds in Excel, you can. If it seems to scroll too fast, you just to take it a little easier; it's a fine touch that will let you move a few rows.
Be sure to follow directions; click off the Scroll button, then click on (it was jerky before that). And no, it won't say 'momentum scrolling' after this change.
Definitely one of the greatest hints (for me, at least).

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

I discovered an easier way to enable scroll with momentum on my MBP running 10.5.8. I simply put the machine to sleep and when I wake it up, voila momentum is enabled. I haven't replicated this on another machine but it's worked the last few times I've tried, each and every time. I discovered this on accident when my daughter thought she was doing me a favor by shutting the lid on my machine..she thought it was asleep but it was just the screen that was asleep. When I opened the lid to continue working I was surprised with the different behavior as I scrolled down a page. It even works in vertical scrolling within the virtual machine. Can someone try this and let me know if it works for them too? My morning routine now is start up the mac, put it to sleep, wake then work.

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

Day 4 of trying the sleep then wake technique and I couldn't get it to work. I knew it wouldn't last :-) So I just followed the instructions running the line in Terminal to enable momentum scrolling and it works great. This will save me a few minutes a day, awesome.

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

Does anyone know how to enable right click on the magic mouse through terminal? My mouse preference is grayed out in this profile. I'll have to rebuild this machine long term to lose the restrictions. In the meantime I would like to be able to use right click. Thanks in advance for the help.

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

I'm trying to use the tricks posted here, but am having some difficulties..
No problem posting the code in the terminal - though I don't know what I have a file with that name on my computer. This is odd.
When I go to mouse preferences, I do not see a check box for scrolling. I only see a tracking speed and double click speed sliders. Nothing about scrolling. Any ideas?

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

wow, a million thanks. i was super bummed when i found out there was no momentum scrolling but this did the trick.. thank you

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

Mac OS X 10.5
I'm also having trouble getting momentum scrolling working.
I've performed the steps in terminal and then go to the mouse preferences and see no 'momentum scrolling' option.
Turned the Magic Mouse off.. plugged in my wired mouse and see a bunch more options under mouse preferences but still nothing concerning momentum scrolling there.. nothing more under trackpad either.
Thus far my Magic Mouse will not scroll by swiping the back of it. No scrolling up & down or left to right. The 'right click' option is working.. ya know. cut/copy/past so on and so forth.
Are there any other system files that I could check / change to get this enabled?

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

I put that code into my terminal and pressed enter, and then went to my preferences for the mouse, and there is no box to check/ uncheck for scrolling.

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

Run 'Software Update' from the Apple menu. This should give you the new Mouse configuration screen from System Preferences.

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

I does actually work. The momentum option is not displayed on the mouse setting pane, however deselecting the scroll then re-selecting it again enables the feature. Now my magic mouse scrolls like a dream. THANKS. BIG MAN POINTS GOING OUT TO MAC OSX HINTS

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

Hello.
I am running Leopard 10.5.8 and just got a magic mouse! I am confused about how to 'run' the command in Terminal (I have never used Terminal before). Also, I DO NOT see any button to enable scrolling in the preferences panel.
I do not want to upgrade to Snow Leopard because of the glitches/issues with CS4. Any help with how to get my scrolling working in Leopard? THANK YOU!

10.5: Enable momentum scrolling for Magic Mouse in 10.5

If you're adding a Magic Mouse to an existing system running Leopard, you have to do some stuff first to make this work. Yes, even if you're already on 10.5.8.
First, connect your new Magic Mouse to your computer via Bluetooth. Then, click the Apple menu in the upper left corner, select Software Update, then download and install the Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0 and restart. THEN you can run this terminal command and have it work.
For the person above who needs help with terminal, click on the Spotlight icon (magnifying glass) in the upper right corner and type Terminal. Click on the application that comes up. Then just copy and paste the command in this hint right into that command line. Hit enter, close Terminal, and then go back into Mouse system preferences and follow the rest of the directions in the hint.

Update

Hint was awesome!! I've been angry with my momentumless magic mouse until today! THANKS

Best Wireless Mouse for MacBook

For laptop users, wireless mice are a god-send. They keep wiring to a minimum, are conveniently sized and allow quick and easy connectivity, when needed. Scroll below for a look at which mice are compatible with the MacBook.

What’s computing without a mouse? Well, one would have to learn a lot of keyboard shortcuts, scrolling would be next to impossible and playing computer games would be very, very difficult. The little computer mouse is as indispensable to a computer as a brain is to a human. That being said, laptops in general come with track-pads instead of mice. But nothing beats resting your palm on a mouse and using the traditional click-click button.

A new and very popular trend with computer mice is going wireless. Wireless mice communicate with the laptop, using either radio frequency or through Bluetooth. Such mice can be used on practically any surface and have high sensitivity rates. They are also very handy and nifty-sized for computing on the go. Most wireless mice run on AA batteries, however top-notch models can recharge from the laptop itself or have an impressive battery life. In this article, we will look at some wireless mice, in a search for the best wireless mouse for MacBook.
