I am relatively new to using OBS and after reading basic set up instructions and watching numerous tutorials on YouTube I still have the same issue of getting a solid audio signal into OBS but intermittently going out via a stream and a recording. After initially trying to stream via Twitch and Facebook without any joy I thought maybe there could be a difference in settings for recording even then I experienced the same result.
I am currently using the following hardware and software:
- MacBook Pro on OS 10.15.4 Catalina
- OBS 25.0.7
- [Audio Input Centre] Pioneer DJM-900 nexus mixer with the current firmware and driver installed on my MacBook.
- this has a built in sound card which is connected to the MacBook via USB.
- I use this configuration on a weekly basis to record my radio shows on Audacity without any audio issues.
- [Video Capture Device] MacBook built in webcam
Since starting to try live streaming the audio has been coming into OBS without any issues, but every occasion the output audio differs. Sometimes it works for approx 20 minutes before the sound crackles and then drops out, other times it only works for a couple of minutes before the same event occurs whilst others it doesn't work from the get go.
I can only assume this is a settings issue on my behalf due to getting a solid input and output when I use the same configuration to record audio on Audacity. Because of this I know the Sound card is serviceable so can't see why else it wouldn't work on OBS.
I stumbled upon a post on here that suggested using an Apple Encoder in the advanced settings for streaming and recording. I did have mine set up to x264 before reading that and willing to try anything I changed it to Apple VT H264 Hardware Encoder without any improvement. I then changed it to Apple VT H264 Software Encoder, again without any improvement.
I have also set the MacBook to monitor and output the audio just so I know the exact moment the audio drops out.
Any help, guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated. At this point I am banging my head off the wall and ready to throw the MacBook out the window! haha
Also, here is the log file from my last recording. I managed 14 minutes before the sound went distorted, I let it play for a short time and then stopped the recording. Might also be worth noting that I have a limiter set so that the audio isn't going into the amber and remains in the green for the best audio quality.
